BCL Criminal Law Work Experience Placement

Overview of essay competition:

For the first time, in 2024 BVL has partnered with BCL to organise a legal essay writing competition.​ The top prize is £1,000 and other prizes for runners up. The competition is open from 29 June 2024 to 16 September 2024.

The essay title for the 2024 competition is as follows:
"Is there a need for Criminal Justice reform in the UK? Which areas are most in need for reform, and what specific changes would you propose​."
​
Essays should have a word count of between 1,000 and 1,250 words.
​

To be eligible for the competition participants must be full-time students aged 16 to 19 years at a non-fee-paying school in England and Wales at the time of entry to the competition. Students who have just completed their A-Levels (or equivalent) in 2024 are eligible.

BCL Solicitors LLP, is formally partnering with BVL for the second year running to offer three of our students a one week placement at the firm over the summer.
​
BCL is a market leading firm specialising in domestic and international corporate and financial crime, extradition, tax investigations and litigation, financial regulatory enforcement, corporate manslaughter and health and safety offences, disciplinary proceedings, data protection and information law, serious and general crime, as well as the associated areas of anti-money laundering and anti-corruption compliance and risk management.

The only eligibility requirements we have are that you will be 16 years or over at the time of the project and that you are studying for your A-Levels (or equivalent) at a non-fee paying school. All of our projects are free of charge for all students. ​

This opportunity is open to students across England and Wales. Travel expenses will be paid and accommodation arranged where necessary.
​
